What is Job Skills Connect?
Job Skills Connect is a fully funded pilot program that helps regional manufacturers redesign entry-level roles and host work-integrated placements with skilled, innovation-ready young people aged 15–25. It includes pre-skilling, job matching, and business support at no cost.
What’s the time commitment for my business?
You choose the level of involvement. Most businesses attend an initial roundtable or consult, then host an 8-week placement (1–5 days/week). Time is also needed for onboarding, mentoring, and feedback — supported by our templates and videos.
What support is provided?
We provide:
- Job redesign tools
- Youth pre-skilling and matching
- Ongoing contact throughout the placement
- Access to a peer network of participating businesses
- Templates, checklists, and onboarding resources
Do I need to employ the trainee afterward?
No. There is no obligation to hire after the placement ends — although you’re welcome to if it’s the right fit.
What kind of skills will the young people have?
Before placement, participants complete a short online program focused on:
- Critical thinking
- Innovation and creativity
- Ethics and responsibility
- Problem solving
- Teamwork and communication
They earn industry-endorsed micro-credentials that demonstrate their workplace readiness.
What about insurance and WHS?
Standard workplace insurance applies. We’ll help ensure all necessary procedures are in place before placements begin, including risk management and duty-of-care responsibilities.
Can small or medium businesses take part?
Yes — the program is open to mid-sized and scaling manufacturers, particularly those in advanced manufacturing, agtech, cleantech, and related sectors.
